EATING DISORDERS
When working with an individual struggling with an eating disorder I strive to create a safe trusting relationship. I take a trauma informed approach to helping a client rebuild a sense of connection and safety within their life as they recover. Depending on the specific nature of the eating disorder this care plan may require a clients GP to work in collaboration to ensure a client's physical safety is maintained throughout the therapy work. Drawing on the latest clinical research, approaches to the effective treatment of eating disorders are changing and evidence shows It is possible to recover with the right compassionate care and support.
ANXIETY
Anxiety can take many forms and make us feel as if we are living constantly on edge. Whatever the source of a person's anxiety psychotherapy can help. I work with clients who experience panic attacks, a constant sense of dread, OCD behaviors, social anxiety, disturbed sleep patterns and many other forms of anxiety. I strive to help clients develop coping skills and work through their anxiety. In order to do so I draw on various therapeutic approaches including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Mindfulness techniques and person centered talk therapy. There is no one size fits all for working with a unique individual so I work collaboratively with each client to support their healing.
DEPRESSION
Working through depression requires a relationship of trust, patience and compassion. Whatever the underlying causes of a clients depression psychotherapy can help anyone to navigate and overcome depression. As a therapist I work to help clients move through their dark night of the soul and into a life of feeling and meaning.
STRESS & TRAUMA
As human beings we will all experience some degree of stress and trauma and at times these experiences can overwhelm us and undermine our ability to live the life we want. I work with clients who have experienced relational, physical and sexual trauma. My approach to this work is underpinned by an emphasis on a safe therapeutic relationship and an understanding of the human nervous system. With this kind of therapy I often work with clients using a combination of breathing techniques, creative expression and talk therapy.
IDENTITY ISSUES
Struggling to know ourselves and our desires is a core part of being a human. Sometimes particular aspects of who we are are difficult for us to accept. I work with clients struggling with self identity issues. This could include issues around sexual orientation, gender identity, extreme beliefs or simply a sense of disconnection from their true selves. When helping clients work through these issues I take a gentle and explorative approach to uncovering who you are and what you desire in life. I work to create a safe and non-judgmental relationship with clients as we work together to uncover and accept their whole self.
